Annyeong! Welcome to South Korea! Our adventure kicks off in Seoul, the vibrant capital where high-tech innovation meets rich tradition, and soaring skyscrapers stand alongside ancient palaces. If you arrive early, take some time to explore this dynamic metropolis, where the old and new harmoniously coexist. At 5 pm, we’ll gather for a welcome reception and an orientation walk, followed by a delicious dinner of Korean barbecue, where you can enjoy grilling meats like beef, pork, and chicken right at the table, creating the perfect start to our journey together.

This morning, we step back in time to Korea’s royal past at Gyeongbokgung Palace, where we’ll witness the grand Changing of the Guard ceremony and explore the majestic palace grounds. Next, we’ll wander through the picturesque alleyways of Bukchon Hanok Village, taking in the charm of its centuries-old Hanok houses and panoramic city views. For lunch, we’ll gather at a traditional Hanok restaurant to savor classic Korean dishes. Afterward, enjoy some free time to browse the artisan shops and cozy cafés of Insadong. In the afternoon, you can choose to unwind with a leisurely stroll through Seochon, a picturesque neighborhood brimming with artisan shops, or dive into the vibrant energy of Myeongdong, exploring K-beauty stores, boutique shops, and street food stalls.

We’ll begin by exploring The Hyundai Seoul, a luxurious shopping mall, followed by a visit to the Coex Mall, home to the iconic Starfield Library, a breathtaking open space perfect for photos. We’ll cap off our morning with a tour of Samsung Electronics to witness the latest in cutting-edge technology.. After lunch, we’ll board the KTX bullet train to Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla Dynasty, where we’ll savor a traditional dinner of bibimbap, a vibrant dish of rice, vegetables, and spicy chili paste.

We’ll start with a visit to Daereungwon Tumuli Park, a royal tomb complex that houses ancient burial mounds, including the famous Cheonmachong Tomb, filled with fascinating relics. Afterward, we’ll stop for a repose in beautiful Bomun Park, offering picturesque views. In the evening, you’ll have the chance to explore Donggung Palace and the tranquil Wolji Pond, beautifully illuminated under the night sky. Wander through the city’s historic streets, lined with traditional Hanok architecture, and immerse yourself in nearly 1,000 years of Silla Dynasty history.

Next, we’ll explore Yangdong Village, a beautifully preserved Joseon-era village that offers a glimpse into traditional Korean life. In the afternoon, we’ll travel by private coach to Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city, where we’ll find a perfect mix of mountains, beaches, hot springs, and some of the freshest seafood in the country.

We’ll begin by exploring the eastern coast, visiting a citrus farm for a refreshing taste of Jeju’s famous oranges before heading to Sunrise Peak, Korea’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Formed by volcanic activity around 5,000 years ago, this breathtaking viewpoint offers panoramic views. On our way back to the hotel, we’ll stop by Jeju Folk Village to delve into the island’s traditional culture. The evening is yours to enjoy as you wish.

day 11: Jeju’s Western Wonders
This morning, we’ll explore Jeju’s west coast, starting with a visit to Jeju Green Tea Farm, where the rich tea culture thrives amidst photogenic rolling fields. Our journey continues with a walk along the Olle trail, where layers of stacked sandstone create a striking, otherworldly landscape. Later, we’ll meet a local Haenyo, Jeju’s legendary women divers who harvest shellfish from the sea, often diving up to 10 meters without oxygen tanks. The evening is yours to explore at your leisure.

For those heading home, it’s a quick one-hour flight to Gimpo Airport, where you can easily transfer by train to Incheon Airport for your international flight. Whether you’re continuing your journey or returning home, we wish you safe travels and unforgettable memories from your time in South Korea!

Our detour begins in Seoul at our first hotel, where we will meet for a welcome reception around 5 pm. Our trip ends on Jeju island, where you can catch a connecting flight back to Seoul, or use as a launch pad for further travel in Asia.

While this varies by detour, we generally plan to meet between 5-6 pm at our hotel on Day 1. If you plan to arrive a day early and want to stay in our trip hotel, please make arrangements with the hotel directly, indicating that you are part of our group.

Please plan to fly into Seoul’s Incheon Airport. We intentionally left your departure location open, as Jeju offers frequent flights not only to Seoul, but is a great launching point to other locations in Asia.

During the registration process you will have the opportunity to request single occupancy, if it is offered. Due to the boutique nature of our hotels, we are not always able to offer single accommodations, but are happy to pair you with another single traveler.

Yes. You must be able to carry your own luggage up at least three flights of stairs and on uneven ground for up to a quarter mile.

Dressler Detours are physically demanding. To enjoy the experience, you must be in good walking shape. The most active days may average 5 miles of walking (often over uneven surfaces and including lots of climbing/steps), lots of standing while listening to your guide during group sightseeing, and possibly stair-climbing while carrying your own bag up to your hotel room. This detour includes boat travel as well. We’ve included an activity guide for each day of our itinerary: light=mostly sedentary, moderate=walking 1-3 miles on mostly even ground, strenuous=walking 3+ miles on hills/uneven ground.
